Sport
Sport plays a large part of academy life at Malcolm Arnold Academy which is recognised by claiming the prestigious title of Northampton’s Sports School of the Year in 2014 and 2015.
Here at Malcolm Arnold Academy we pride ourselves on offering sporting opportunities for all our pupils, from participation through to performance. As an Academy we offer all our students to opportunity to engage in sport and physical activity, not only in PE lessons, but by taking part in over 15 annual house competitions, attending lunch time and after school clubs or representing the Academy in one of the 200+ fixtures we deliver each academic year. On top of this we support the students and teams who wish to take their talent further by competing in National Cups and English Schools Championships and encouraging pupils to join a club outside of school.
As part of the David Ross Education Trust we also access some once in a lifetime opportunities. Our students have been coached by Olympic Champions, been part of master classes with Cricket legends Shane Warne and Alastair Cook, attended the Commonwealth Games, been part of Team GB and performed in front of Lord Coe, Colin Jackson and Lawrence Dallaglio, to name a few opportunities. On top of this we compete at our Trust wide events including the Winter, Summer and Spring Cups each year, have students selected for the Trust All Star teams and run a sports leadership programme.
Since 2022, we have developed new partnerships with Northampton Saints and Loughborough Lightening Rugby, as well as Northampton Town Football Club to help drive our Rugby and Football programmes. These give our students in all years the opportunity to be coached by expert coaches from each organisation, compete at a higher level and develop their skills. We compete in both county and national competitions for football, for both girls and boys, and have a number of students on the Saints DPP pathway.
We have also developed a new partnership with Northampton Saints Hockey as part of our Hockey Development Programme, where our students in year 7-11 have the opportunity to take part in 6 hours of coaching each week, as well as representing the school in both local and county fixtures.
As part of the David Ross Education Trust, we also provide students with the opportunity to perform at elite levels, representing the trust as part of the all-stars programme in football, netball, rugby, hockey and rowing. We also take part in numerous development days across the academic year for a variety of sports where students have the opportunity to develop their sporting potential, working alongside other elite performers and being coached by experts.
All this is part of life in TeamMAA and we’re proud of the amazing life changing and world class opportunities we provide.
