Equality Objectives
We recognise that the public sector equality duty has three aims. These aims are to:
- Eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation and other conduct under the Act
- Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not
- Foster good relations between people who have a shared characteristic and those who do not
The David Ross Education Trust will annually review how well we achieve these aims with regard to the protected groups under the Equality Act (2010) (race, disability, gender, gender re-assignment, age, pregnancy and maternity, marital status, religion and belief and sexual orientation).
We aim to provide the highest possible education for all of our students. The ethos of our academies clearly reflects our commitment to fully including and respecting all members of our academy communities.
Equality Objectives for Malcolm Arnold Academy 2025-2029 :
Objective 1: Narrow Attainment Gaps
Reduce the attainment gap between SEND, disadvantaged students (including those eligible for Pupil Premium, Young Carers, EAL, Children in Care and children with social workers) and their peers through adapted practice in classrooms, targeted interventions and tailored support.
Objective 2: Inclusive Curriculum
Ensure that the curriculum and teaching resources reflect and celebrate the diversity of the student body, including race, gender, disability, religion, and cultural background.
Objective 3: Access and Participation
Promote equality of opportunity for all students and staff across the academy, regardless of protected characteristics.
Increase the participation of underrepresented groups in enrichment activities and leadership opportunities.
Objective 4: Foster a Culture of Respect and Belonging
Tackle all forms of bullying, harassment, and prejudice by embedding equality, diversity, and inclusion into staff training, student assemblies, and school policies, ensuring all members of the academy community feel valued and respected.
