Malcolm Arnold Academy awarded Bronze at DRET Winter Cup
Malcolm Arnold Academy has been celebrating the success of its young sports stars after winning third place at the David Ross Education Trust’s Winter Cup 2015.
The event, which was held at the University of Nottingham, brought together nearly 1,000 students from across the Trust’s secondary academies to compete in football and netball tournaments in a mission to win the coveted Winter Cup.
As well as taking gold in the Year 7 football, the academy brought home silver in both Year 8 netball and Year 11 football. The Year 9 football and Year 10 netball teams celebrated third place in their respective categories.
Players of the Day were awarded to Vintonie Dasent and Giani Tanasa, both in Year 11, for their excellent sportsmanship and outstanding individual performances.
Shane Ward, Sports Enrichment Manager for the David Ross Education Trust, said: “I have been so impressed with the level of sportsmanship at this year’s DRET Winter Cup.
"Every single one of our students gave 100%, working together as a team and competing with pride for their academies."
The day was also attended by former England international footballer Sue Smith and football freestyler Dan Magness as well as three Loughborough Lightning players, who cheered the players on and gave them advice on their techniques.
Wendy Marshall, Chief Executive of the Trust, added: "The Winter Cup has been another huge success. It was fantastic to celebrate the sporting talent across our Trust. Well done to all who took part!”
