Malcolm Arnold Academy’s GCSE results crown a fantastic year

Staff and students at Malcolm Arnold Academy are smiling as it is celebrating one of its best ever set of GCSE results.

50% of students at the academy, which is part of the David Ross Education Trust, achieved A*-C in maths and English. A similar figure achieved the same amount if 5 A*-C (including English and maths). This is up 13% on last year, and amongst the academy’s best ever set of results.

Chris Steed, Principal, is delighted with the results.

“What better way to top an outstanding year. Our A-Level results significantly improved, our students have won a number of major sporting and cultural competitions, Ofsted praised the progress the academy is making, and now we have some outstanding GCSEs.

“Everyone at this academy can be justifiably proud of what we have collectively achieved.”

“What is really interesting is that these results show that our students are not just achieving some fantastic grades, but also surpassing the progress levels that the government sets. In English, over 60% of our students made four levels of progress – which is almost double the national average.”

Amongst the smiling faces was Vicale Alfanti, who achieved 5 A*, 5 A and 1 B grade, will head off to college to study the sciences.

She said: “It feels completely surreal. So many years of hard work have finally paid off and I can’t wait for sixth form.

“I’m looking forward to the future and studying science.”

Another happy student was Jaker Ahmed, who got the grades to go to college and study maths, biology and chemistry.

Jaker said: “I did much better than expected and my goal of studying biochemistry at university is even closer.

“The teachers have been really helpful during my time at school and I feel ready to go to college.”

Mr Steed added: “It is fantastic to know that our students are not just obtaining what is expected, but proving to everyone that we really can achieve something special here at Malcolm Arnold Academy.”

Wendy Marshall said: “These results show that Malcolm Arnold is once again amongst the best schools in the town.

“The Head of School and his staff have done an outstanding job supporting some inspirational students. I am genuinely delighted for all they have achieved."
